For who ?
Internal auditors, audit directors and managers, permanent controllers, Risk Managers, as well as students enrolled in an accounting, financial or management study program.
CIA Update (2019)
The CIA exam is, and will remain, a three-part exam designed to test candidates’ knowledge, skills and abilities associated with current internal audit practices.
Candidates for the CIA must :
- Know the latest version of the IIA’s “International Reference Framework for Professional Practices in Internal Auditing” (CRIPP) and make appropriate use of it;
Be able to perform an audit engagement with minimal supervision in accordance with the IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing;
Be able to apply the tools and techniques to assess risks and control systems;
Demonstrate their knowledge of organizational governance;
Apply their knowledge of the organisation and its environment, information systems and management necessary for the performance of internal audit assignments.
The themes of each CIA review program have been revised to:
- Update reviews with current internal audit practices.
- Clarify the knowledge and skills candidates must have to pass the exam.
- More accurately align AFIC programs (particularly Parts 1 and 2) with the IIA Standards.
- Refocus the content of Part 3 on the basic knowledge and skills that internal auditors must possess to carry out their responsibilities.
The revised AIC programs also specify the cognitive level or detail of knowledge that AIC candidates must demonstrate for each topic of the exam. Candidates are asked about exam concepts at one of two cognitive levels :
- Basic level – Candidates must clearly understand and memorize information and/or demonstrate a basic understanding of concepts or processes.
- Experienced level – Candidates must apply concepts, processes or procedures; they evaluate and make judgements based on criteria; and/or they assemble elements or materials to formulate conclusions and recommendations.

Consistency of the CIA Exam
The CIA exam is available through computerized tests allowing candidates to take the exam all year round in more than 500 exam centers around the world and in several languages: Arabic, German, English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai and Turkish.
It is provided in the form of MCQs divided into three exams (possibility of passing them separately).

Candidates can write the exams at all IIA-accredited Pearson VUE Centres worldwide, regardless of whether the examination centre is located in their city or country.

registration process
The entire CIA certification registration process takes place at the portal level CCMS (Certification Candidate Management System), and now the candidate is required to pay the related fees online on this same portal.
To benefit from advantageous tariffs, it would be advisable to join IIA-MAROC beforehand. To do this, download the membership form available in the section Join the IIA-MOROCCO and follow the instructions mentioned above.
Overall, the procedure to be followed consists of the following 3 steps :
1/ Accession at IIA MOROCCO level, in order to obtain the ID access and passwords of the CCMS.
2/ Registration and regulation of the exam on CCMS
3/ Planning the review date at the PEARSON VUE website.

Conditions for admission to the CIA exam ®
Applicants to the CIA program are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions of the program, including admission criteria, confidentiality of the exam content; the Code of Ethics and continuing professional education requirements, and other conditions set by the IIA Professional Certification Council (PCB).
Requirement
CIA candidates must meet the following admission criteria for their academic background, morality and professional experience.
Academic Career
Candidates for the CIA must have a BAC+4 or higher, from universities or major public schools. For private schools, the IIA-MAROC reserves the right to study the applicant’s file as well as the school’s program to decide on eligibility for the CIA exam.
Moral Reference
Candidates must present high moral and professional consideration and must submit a Reference form signed by a CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CFSA, CRMA, or the supervisor of the candidate.
Professional experience
CIA candidates must have a minimum of 24 months of experience in internal audit or equivalent. A master’s degree can be substituted for 12 of the required 24 months. A Work Experience Verification Form is required. However, applicants may apply to the program and take the exam before they fully meet the work experience requirement. In this case, they will only be certified once all program requirements have been met.
Confidentiality
The CIA exam is an undisclosed exam, Applicants to the program must respect the confidentiality of the exam and therefore cannot discuss its content with anyone. Unauthorized disclosure of examination material will be considered a violation of the Code of Ethics and may result in disqualification or other appropriate sanction.
Code of ethics
Candidates for the CIA undertake to comply with the code of ethics established by the IIA.
Continuing vocational training (CVT)
After certification, holders of the CIA title are required to maintain their knowledge and skills and to be constantly informed of developments and developments in internal audit standards and practices as well as CPE requirements. For more information: Download the certification guide
